SOME REVIEWS OF MY PUBLICATIONS

PORTISHEAD RADIO

"For those of us who share a love of radio, whether as SWLs (Shortwave Listeners), amateurs, or commercial operators, a fascination with maritime and aeronautical radio ranks high on the list.

From the time of the Titanic's sinking in April of 1912, shorebound operators have stood by 24/7/365 to carry routine traffic and, God forbid, be there to assist in emergencies.

The book offers a fascinating and detailed inside look at England's Portishead radio - callsign GKA. By the late 1980s, with satellite communications taking a larger share of the station's traffic, the station began scaling down its operations.

The final switch was flipped in June of 2000.

Thanks to Larry Bennett, the history of this great era will not be forgotten."

THE FOOTBALLING MORGAN FAMILY OF BRISTOL

"A well written insight into the Morgan family ,very proud to be a part of."

THE MARCONI BEAM WIRELESS STATIONS OF SOMERSET

ALL SHIPS, ALL SHIPS

"From the beginning of the 20th Century the use of the then ultra modern invention of wireless has been in use, protecting mariners around the UK's coastal waters and further afield too.

A network of Maritime Costal Radio Stations encircled our land, and provided crucial safety warnings and telephone links from ship to shore. This excellent book by Larry Bennet tells the stories of the stations and the people who worked at them.

Sadly, with the march of todays technology, most of the stations have now closed, to be replaced with Coastguard stations, and a good deal of automated tech, too.

This book is very informative, and will appeal to anyone with an interest in HF Radio. The amount of research and work that Larry has put into it is staggering.

Reading this over the coming winter evenings is time very well spent."

"This has triggered so many memories from way back. I'm so glad I bought the book."

"A lovely walk down Memory Lane for someone who grew up then in the area. The author’s memory for detail when he was very young is extraordinary. However, reading it brought it all back to me. The photographs are great memory joggers too."

"A great read. It brought back many happy memories."

"Excellent book "Growing up in Hillfields", I didn't realise until I read the book that I was in the same class as the author in Hillfields Junior School and although we were not close friends I remember he was well liked and trusted, a good person to be around. Even if you've never lived in Hillfields I would recommend this book, well written personal account of life on a council estate. A social document of a time long ago."

"Just received my book. Wow, absolutely brilliant, very interesting as I was born in Hillfields and also went to Hillfields Primary School."

"This book is bringing back so many memories. If you lived in Hillfields, you gotta buy this book."

"Well put together. I can certainly recommend for anyone who grew up in Hillfields in the 70s as I did."
